‘Summer Spell,’ a continuation of last year’s ‘Autumn Spell’, features 11 contemporary artists, both local and some based as far as Sweden, creating a diverse menagerie of works laced with elements of the fantastic. The artists were chosen for their similarities in utilizing the symbols and themes of myth and fairytale while simultaneously expressing a deep- rooted personal vision. Their chosen media; such as silhouette paper cutting, sculpture, polaroid transfers as well as more traditional mediums of watercolor and oils, adds another intriguing layer to the exhibit, showcasing how the fantastic is conjured through varied applications. ‘Summer Spell’ opens at Philadelphia’s Gallery 309 in the heart of the Olde City Gallery district on September 7th. The exhibit runs through October 20 with a second first Friday event, October 5th.
Another (NSFW) piece of mine after the jump. More on Friday!
