When the light is nice
Written on May 3, 2012
I only take on a small handful of commissioned pieces every year because they tend to stress me out and people often want portraits… I’m not the most confident portraitist.
However, if you ask me when the mood is right and my schedule is open, I give it my best effort.
Recently I finished a couple of wedding paper dolls for a lovely couple, Shauna & Cole. They are are to be wed at a beautiful farm which served as inspiration for the dolls and their accessories.
In the past, my portrait dolls were commissioned as anniversary gifts. The first year anniversary is celebrated with paper so it is a befitting gift.
This time the dolls were made for a wedding invitation. So cards were produced in addition to the assembled originals.
As always, it is a huge honor to be asked to create something that celebrates something so significant in someone’s life.
Here’s to a happy life together!

these are lovely! and the chickens.. the chickens..
very beautiful! know that you are a talented portraitist and that the finished piece/product is original and special
I am so thankful you did decide to take us on as a custom project! Amy, your dolls set the tone for what we hope will be a beautiful (and fun!) wedding. But I must disagree when you say you aren’t a portraitist–your renditions of us are amazing! Thank you so much for everything!
These are amazing! Well done.
Thank you so much everyone!
Jen – The chickens were fun to paint but cutting them out was a different story!
Shauna – I feel so honored that you asked me to do this project. What is often stressful for me turned out to be really fun at times. I think I gained a little more confidence with these dolls. You are a dream client. I hope the day is absolutely wonderful. Thank you!
Oh and they have chickens, which are really very beautifully done!
these are incredible! wow wow wow. xx
